Another Successful Dubai 7's for Kuwait Scorpions

6 Dec 2015 by Hussain Al-Helal

Kuwait Scorpions entered two teams into the 2015 Dubai 7’s, the men’s team playing in the Gulf Men’s Open and the women’s playing in the Gulf Women tournament.

The Scorpions were the reigning 2014 Gulf Men’s Open champions and went into this years tournament showing much of the same potency as in previous years with strong victories in the pool fixtures:

KUWAIT SCORPIONS 48 – 0 APB DUBAI SHARKS
KUWAIT SCORPIONS 41 – 0 NOMADS RUGBY CLUB-AMMAN
RIYADH WARRIORS 0 – 59 KUWAIT SCORPIONS

After topping Pool A, the Scorpions went onto the knockout stages with a quarterfinal victory over pool rivals Nomads ending with a Kuwait victory:

KUWAIT SCORPIONS 19 – 0 NOMADS RUGBY CLUB-AMMAN

The Scorpions met Lanka Lions in the semi-finals and unfortunately were unable to progress after a hard fought battle which ended:

KUWAIT SCORPIONS 12 – 27 Lanka Lions

A great effort from the men’s team and definitely some food for thought for next years tournament.

Considering the changes in the women’s side, and lack of match practice, they put a stellar effort in over the weekend to compete with the best women’s teams from around the Gulf:

AL AIN AMBLERS LADIES 49 – 0 KUWAIT SCORPIONS LADIES
KUWAIT SCORPIONS LADIES 5 – 25 ABU DHABI SARACENS WOMEN
DUBAI HURRICANES WOMEN 68 – 0 KUWAIT SCORPIONS LADIES
ABU DHABI SARACENS WOMEN 31 – 10 KUWAIT SCORPIONS LADIES

Both the men and women’s team can be extremely proud of their displays over the weekend. For some of the members, this was their first ever competitive rugby match, and Dubai 7’s could feel like being thrown in at the deep end. Positive results and a positive step forward for Kuwait Scorpions all around.
